BJP Spokesperson

Overview

Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman served as a National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2010 to 2014, after joining the party’s National Executive in 2008. In this role, she became one of the most recognisable voices of the BJP on national media, shaping daily message discipline and articulating the party’s positions on economy, governance and national security.

As spokesperson, she led regular press briefings, issued official statements, and represented the party in televised debates—shouldering rapid-response communication and rebuttals.

During the 2012 Gujarat Assembly election, she regularly addressed the press from the state BJP headquarters in Ahmedabad—briefing media on the campaign’s progress and counter-narratives. In the run-up to the 2014 general election, she publicly outlined the BJP’s push into digital and social media.
